Business Continuity Management - how it works
A pragmatic approach that works, even for small businesses
Emergency Management and Business Continuity Management (BCM). Do we need it?
Yes, I am sure we do. Currently, for example, the Corona pandemic shows that clients who have set up an emergency management system as part of information security management can also react quickly and appropriately to such a wide-ranging force majeure threat scenario and maintain core processes, albeit in emergency mode.
The problem:
You want or have to introduce BCM, e.g. because end customers demand it or because you need it for an ISMS. You want an appropriate emergency management for your business and want to introduce it in the most resource-efficient way possible.
The solution:
Don't reinvent the wheel! There are best practices and industry standards that provide good templates and flowcharts for your project. These include, for example, ISO22301 or the new BSI standard 200-4 from IT-Grundschutz. I am at your side with the necessary know-how. Together, we increase resilience and prepare the company for longer-lasting emergencies and crises.
Approach
The goal is to prepare your company for emergencies in such a way that, in the event of an incident, the most important business functions can first be quickly resumed after a failure and continue to run in an emergency mode. Subsequently, the core processes are restored after a restart phase. Please also see the graphic above. The aim is to minimise the damage and avert risks that threaten the existence of the company.
BIA - Business Impact Analysis
In the first step, we take a look at your critical business processes in a workshop and assess the continuity risks by theoretically running through various threat scenarios and disaster events and sounding out the criticality on a timeline. The result is an action list, agreed with the management, for the further course of action.

Then we get down to practical work. We develop emergency plans and restart plans with concrete procedural steps for the event.
Emergency management
The BIA should be carried out regularly, e.g. annually. Plans should also be reviewed on a regular basis to ensure that they are up to date and effective, and adjusted if necessary. This requires a process and responsible persons, whom I can make fit for this, e.g. at the Training-On-Job.
