Network basics - TCP/IP with Windows

Description

Learning objective

After the training you will understand how the most important TCP/IP protocols work, you will know how IPv4 as well as IPv6 addresses are structured, how subnets work and how TCP applications and utilities are used in a typical Windows network with Active Directory. A chapter on TCP/IP security and network monitoring rounds off the topic.

Intended audience

• (Future) network administrators who manage an Active Directory domain network under Windows Server 2019.

• Experience configuring and operating Windows clients

• IP addresses and number systems (decimal system, binary numbers, bits and bytes)

• The subnet mask, logical AND

• Subprotocols of TCP/IP

Address resolution and routing

• The ARP protocol, the ARP cache, the ARP program, resolving MAC addresses
• Segmentation of networks
• Routers and routing tables
• Gateways: standard gateway, special gateways
• Enter and test routes (ping, tracert and route)

Name resolution and Windows browser services.

• Resolving NetBIOS names, LMHOSTS, NetBIOS cache, node types, WINS
